Happy Halloween!

What a GREAT Halloween weekend we've had around here...and it isn't over yet. Yesterday we did a lot of Halloween activities. I'll say we did WAY better this year than last year, as you can read about in this old post. (I cannot believe how tiny Little D was a year ago...such a baby!)

Yesterday morning we headed out to a pumpkin festival nearby. There were lots of activities for the kids, including trick-or-treating at the local businesses.

Patiently waiting his turn in line to trick-or-treat. To be honest, I think Little D was more interested in the blue car to his right. Vroom!

Who needs to open the wrapper? Just eat it! (Actually, he didn't eat it...and he hasn't even had a piece of candy yet...in his life. We might have to let him try one today.)

And then...we found another fire truck to let our own little fireman inspect. I swear this kid has a sixth sense about knowing when firetrucks are going to be around for him. I have a feeling he thinks that these trucks come around for his personal benefit...and that they don't really do any *real* work.

Almost Little D's turn to climb aboard. He seemed to know he was one of the crew. I mean...he does have the uniform and all. He was proud of his helmet...which blinks & plays a siren sound when you press the light on the front.

We had to hold his hands back from the radio/CB. I'm sure he would have called in a ten-alarm fire...just to get some more rigs to arrive.

This is one of my favorite shots from the day. My big boy! He really loves his trucks.

Getting his temporary tattoo...pretty cool. And yes...that is ANOTHER firefighter next to Little D. We saw a few yesterday...but mostly boys that were older than D.

And then...it was time to hit another pumpkin patch. This time in the city. Now...you might be saying to yourself...I seem to remember a blog post about them already going to a pumpkin patch. You'd be right. But...that day we didn't actually buy any pumpkins. I know...we're terrible.

You see...we have these ultra-aggressive squirrels around here. (Actually, I'm sure they are everywhere...but we like to think they are uber-tough, city squirrels.) They eat pumpkins before you even get a chance to carve them. A smaller pumpkin we set outside was ruined within two days. So...we waited until the last minute to buy our carving pumpkin. Little D had fun picking out the "perfect" pumpkin...again.

This time he got to ride in a wagon too...with his pumpkin. He decided our pumpkin needed to have some bumps on it. Looks good to me.

Trying out a different wagon...to ride to the car with Appa...and his perfect pumpkin.

After lunch and naptime, we headed out to Grandma & Grandpa's house to do some trick-or-treating there. "Ding-dong!"

Trick-or-treat, Grandpa. Wow...thank you. He scored some crackers, yogurt bites, and a cute little tow truck...all in a sweet Halloween bag sewed by Grandma.

We brought our perfect pumpkin with us to carve with Grandma & Grandpa. At first Little D wasn't too sure about putting his hand in the pumpkin. He seemed kind of afraid and didn't like the slimy, cold feeling. (He must take after his father...who admits to feeling "squeamish" upon touching pumpkin guts. Oh, puh-leaze!) But...after we gave Little D a big spoon to go at it...he did just that.

This is when he really wasn't quite sure about helping me. I love the concerned look on his face.

Notice who is scooping...and who is watching. Hmmmm. I guess we all have to have our respective jobs. Happy Halloween everyone!

What a cute fireman!!!! How cool that he got to see a real firetruck while dressed up. Our pumpkin cleaning situations looked identical. We even had the big bowl, only ours was red. We pumpkin cleaning mamas have to stick together!! Enjoy the rest of your Halloween!! Henry wants to wish you a Happy Halloween Little D!

What a FUN day!!! I'm afraid I'm with the boys on the pumpkin guts thing - ew!
I had to giggle over you *maybe* giving D some candy this year. :) We were super-hesitant too... we should have never let O have sugar. It's truly a drug... she's crazy for it now!

Wow! So many fun things! Are you exhausted? I LOVE that Little D got to go on a rig "in uniform" - that must have made. his. day.

I think I have only carved one pumpkin in my life... I'm putting that activity off until requested. In the meantime, I will just appreciate my {whole} pumpkins sitting on my stairs...

Such a perfect costume for little Dylan! We also carved pumpkins yesterday, and Jaden was a little too taken with the knife tools. We kept steering towards the scooping job!

Did he get some candy in the end? That was the only way we got Jaden to wear his costume. Parenting at its best...

There are some majorly cute firemen in the world, but I think Little D might just be the cutest one ever! Love that he got to visit a firetruck while in costume.

And I hear you on the uber-tough urban squirrels. They dug up all of the spring bulbs I planted within hours of finishing them. Urgh.

Such a cutie as a fireman. So glad you had a wonderful Halloween. Looks like he enjoyed every last detail too!

Of course he was a fireman for Halloween! What else would he be? And I cracked up when you said he must think fire trucks just swing by for his benefit. I was thinking the same thing since he's been so lucky to see so many up close and personal! Sorry about your pumpkin-eating urban squirrels. That stinks! I'm glad Little D got to feel some pumpkin guts. You haven't really lived until you feel them ooze through your fingers, right?! Happy Halloween!
