On Saturday we decided to take Little D on a little outing. After being sick during the week...and since he was feeling much better...we decided to end the cabin fever by taking a train ride downtown to visit the farmer's market and enjoy some brunch. Like many other toddler boys, Little D is a train nut. We knew he'd love it. But...this was not his first time. His classroom took the train on a field trip a month or two ago, so let's just say...this little guy is used to riding the rails.

Enjoying some crackers while waiting for the train to arrive.

There's the choo-choo now.

Let's go!!!
The train was crowded heading downtown...
...lots of people heading to the baseball game.
(Thus...no photos on the trip in.)

Beautiful flowers at the market.

Beautiful caffeine options at the market.

I love sunflowers!

Then...it was time for brunch.
We're lucky that Little D does SO.VERY.WELL at restaurants.
In fact, sometimes he eats (& behaves) better there than at home.

We went to a place we never thought of as a child-friendly restaurant.
We used to dine here a lot...during our pre-kid life.
But...for brunch...we figured it was OK.
Plus...they did have TWO highchairs in the joint...so it must be OK.

Peek-a-boo...cooks, we see you.

Trying on his new hat...purchased at the market.

Ready to go back outside.
No...that is not a winter coat. Just a windbreaker.
(Looks like a puffy coat with the stroller straps on him.)

Back on the train. Heading home.

Lots to see outside.

"OK...I'm bored...what else can we do?"

"YAY! Gymnastics!"

"Look how strong I am!"

Future Olympian?! We think so.

Little D's new hat is cute! And I'm such a sucker for cut flowers at markets - those are beautiful! Love the gymnastic pictures on the train - I agree, future Olympian!!
Looks like you guys enjoyed a great day out and I love his new hat! Glad he is feeling better!
The farmers market and train look like so much fun! I adore Little D's new hat too. And it looks like you may have a little gymnast on your hands! :)
that hat is awesome! what a fun outing -- an so special with a ride on the choo choo!
I LOVE that hat! I am so glad that Little D is feeling better and that you got to get out and have some family fun:-)
what a fun day! i love the bounty of a farmers' market :)
Oh, I definitely think you have a future Olympian on your hands there! Go D! There's so much I love about this post, but I think I am most fascinated by the hat (I think you know how I feel about hats) and the eating in a "grown-up" restaurant... that's still touch and go here!
(Oh yeah, and I LOVE the photo of D looking out of the train...)
Train + brunch at a hip restaurant + flowers/coffee at the farmer's market + totally awesome new hat = fabulous outing!! What more could you want? Love all these photos. Ya know, Max is better at restaurants than home too (usually). He just loves looking around being nosy, I think :) Fun, fun, fun!!
Trains rule! Love love farmers markets. I could go to one every day and be so happy.
