It's My Party...

...And I'll Cry If I Want To!

OK...so it wasn't exactly a "party," but Little D definitely did some crying. Let me back up. About a month & a half ago I started planning a get-together (group playdate?) for some local adoptive families we have met either in real life or through blog land. Well...the date finally came...and it was time to get the group together on Saturday morning. A few families couldn't make it, but we ended up with 4 families this time. The kiddos are all really close in age (all with birthdays within a couple of months of each other) and we thought it would be fun to see them all in action together.

Let me also back up by saying that Little D has been doing a *little* better in terms of sleeping in for us...as in 6:00 or even 6:15 AM. Yes...for those of you that don't know...that is *TOTALLY* sleeping in around here. (It sure beats 5 AM or so.) However...on Saturday...Little D decided that 5:15 was a perfectly good time to get up...and wouldn't go back to sleep for anything. So...I knew we might be in trouble.

Our guests arrived around 9:15-9:30...and we got right to playing. The original plan was to head out to a park near our home, but it was raining...so we went with Plan B: staying at our house. Little D did pretty well...until about 10:30...and then he sort of hit the wall. Of course...this also was right around the same time that I got the bright idea to start taking some photos...including a group shot. Well...this is what we ended up with...

Notice how happy everyone looks...except the little guy on the far right. Yep, that's Little D. Normally he is Mr. Smiles...Mr. Cute-Face...Mr. Personality...or some version of those three. But at this particular point in time? Not.So.Much. I love how Little H is looking at Little D like, "What's your problem?" Actually...she was so sweet...she was really worried about him. Every time he'd start wailing away...she'd get a very concerned look on her face and ask if he had an owie. So sweet!

Here's another attempt. Ooops...even worse, Little D. But...our group consisted of the four moms...along with Little H, Little G, Little H, and Mr. Crabby Pants.

Just in case you wanted to see a close-up of this pure pathetic-ness in action. This is pretty unusual for Little D...thank goodness. So...what did I do? I couldn't stop laughing. I mean...I know I should have been consoling him...and I swear I tried. But...when that didn't work...I sort of just laughed it off.

Little H and her Omma enjoying a book while Little G dug into some Lego.

Little H and Little G spotted our kitty in the kitchen. Even though they were really quiet and gentle...our cat remained behind the safety of that gate. I'm sure she was like "FOUR toddlers? Are you kidding me?!"

Later on...Little D sort of rallied...or got a second wind.
And yes...Little H *is* upside-down here. Wheee!

He even decided to show Little H his shell and ball. I think he was trying to redeem himself.

After everyone left, we immediately got Little D in his high chair to feed him some lunch. After eating a little bit...guess who started falling asleep in the high chair a mere 10 minutes after everyone left? Yep...Mr. Party Animal. We'll have to work on his hosting skills. Hopefully next time he won't wake up sooooo early. I mean...he can save the house cleaning and baking to me...but it was nice of him to offer.

Thanks to our friends for coming. Looking forward to getting together with this group again (along with a few other families)...and again...and again.

We have those days, too! D still looks pretty cute crying, though. :)

What a fun playdate! How great to have everyone get together. I recognized at least one of those kiddos!

I am sorry he woke up so early, ugh! Looks like he warmed up at the end. Great idea with the playgroup. :) I am sure parents and toddlers alike had a blast!

It looks like so much fun! Why do they always INSIST on waking up extra early on the days when there is something fun planned???? I have to admit I chuckled a bit at that close up of Little D looking pretty unhappy...we totally have those pictures too! I hope you start the week out well rested :)

I know he was sooo tired, but I can't helping laughing at his crabby pants picture. :) Sometimes you just have to laugh to deal with the drama! We had so much fun!!! Thanks again for hosting!

Gotta love days like that especially when guests are coming over! Nonetheless, he still looks super cute in those pics even when he is crying!

The Mr. Crabbypants picture is still really cute!! Poor guy was soo tired, he had to get up so early to get ready for his guests. Let him know that H really enjoyed all of his toys, especially the garbage truck and fire truck. Thank you again for having us!! We all had a great time and enjoyed meeting everyone!

Finally a picture that Little D isn't smiling! Tee-hee! I'm sure he'll look back at the pictures and think "what was my problem then? I had two girls there!" LOL

Yep- sometimes you just gotta laugh!

Oh, poor Little D! He's so adorable when he's crying though. X usually gets overwhelmed when we have large play dates at our house - I think it's hard for them to share their space. Add in little sleep and it's all out the window! Looks like everyone had a good time though.

Poor little D... 5am? Seriously? That it tough. Let's hope he grows out of that stage quickly. Once Alex started getting his 2yr molars he started sleeping a lot better.
Looks like a fun play date though!

Oh, I'm sorry, but that really is a funny face. He's still adorable though! And wow, this looks like an AWESOME "party!"
