New Year's Day - Tradition

Several years ago my DH and I started a New Year's Day tradition: We take a walk...no matter how cold it is. We get outside to enjoy the outdoors...snow, ice, and usually very cold temperatures. I mean...we do live up north, after all. It is a great way to start off the year and enjoy mother nature...even her winterized version. We typically go out at mid-day...when hopefully the sun is at its brightest and warmest...but other plans prevented that yesterday. Therefore, we went after nap time in the afternoon. That's right...Baby D joined us (of course)...for his first New Year's Day Winter Walk.

After bundling (!!!) up...snow pants, parkas, boots, hats, gloves, snowsuit...we headed out. (BTW...I'm usually sweating by the time I get myself bundled & D too...I'm ready for a blast of arctic air when we head outside.) As you can see Baby D didn't really "walk." He rode on his Appa's back. This is the first time we used this backpack with D...and let's just say it was a HUGE hit. He had a giant grin on his face for the whole walk...even as his little cheeks turned red.

Here they go...down the sidewalk. We normally head down to the lake or to the creek...but we didn't want to walk too long since Baby D was with us...and it was COLD. I think the high temperature yesterday was a whopping 6 degrees!

First family shot of the new year. It is fun to think that next year, Baby D will be able to do at least some of the "walk" himself. He is walking a lot indoors...but the snow & ice make it really tricky outdoors right now. It is really fun sharing our traditions with our son. Love it.

Absolutely freaking love your New Year tradition. Plus it was even better now that Baby D (or does he prefer Little D) went along. I <3 (heart) the bundled up with a smile picture!

LOVE that tradition! And look out - they don't walk so fast as toddlers... easily distracted and such. Great first shot of the family! Oh, and Olive LOVES her backpack carrier like yours. Must remind them of Korea :)

Happy New Year!
I think taking a walk is a great tradition! And baby D is adorable :)
Our kids have loved to ride on the back when hiking too ;)

That is a GREAT tradition! I might have to find the type of carrier you are using - I need something more designed for hiking than the Ergo.

What a wonderful tradition! I love how bundled up you guys are!!

Next year might be a very speedy walk... at least, it would be if we tried that... And something tells me S and D are similar in nature there.

That's a neat tradition! I read this post in the car on my phone yesterday, and I was cracking up at D in his snowsuit! Hilariously cute! I made sure to show B when we were at a stoplight.

I love this idea for New Year's Day. We should all do that! Of course, for you guys, it's extra impressive. I have to say that when I first saw your hubby's snow pants, I was thinking "isn't that a little overkill? I mean it's not like you guys are going skiing, just out for a stroll." And then I read it was 6 degrees. Oh. Now, I get it. Sheesh, that's cold.

Love that last photo of the family. Beautiful!!
